Understanding the Side Quest "Mice" in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

The side quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II can seem daunting, especially when they intertwine with one another. In particular, the "Mice" quest is crucial to engaging in the overall storyline, as it intertwines with the "Frogs" quest. Completing either of these will eventually lead you to the subsequent quest known as "Frog and Mouse Feud." Below is a comprehensive guide to navigating the "Mice" quest effectively.

To start the quest, head over to Talmberg and engage in a conversation with the tavern owner, Prochek. He will direct you to Zehrov, where you will need to assist with painting cattle. Before proceeding, seek out the blacksmith Radovan. Although he will eventually give you a more overarching story line regarding assistance, make sure to inquire about calming animals first to obtain the recipe for a soothing potion.

Now, venture into your "crafting menu" and review the potion's recipe details. Make sure to explore the "herbs" section to identify where you can gather the required herbs for your potion. You can purchase two of the herbs from the herbalist Alanka at the bandit camp. Additionally, you can find purple thistle in the herbalist's garden in Troskovice. There is also an alchemical station in Troskovice; find one there, and follow the recipe to make three doses of the soothing potion.

Next, find a tailor in Troskovice to purchase some paint. If you explain that you need it for the cattle, he may even gift it to you for free, which is a great way to save resources. During the day, head to Zehrov's barn discreetly and pour the soothing potion into the cattle's feed box. Shift the time to night, ensuring both the cattle and humans are asleep. You may need to throw a stone to distract a guard outside to gain entry, where you can complete your task of painting the cattle.

Once you have finished this mission, return to the tavern owner Prochek in Talmberg, where you can rent a bed. Note that the sleeping arrangement is somewhat distant, as it is located on the roof of the barn in the northern part of Talmberg, requiring a climb up some ladders.
