How to Complete the Hell's Mouth Side Quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, players can accept side quests from the map, and one such quest is the Hell's Mouth. Let's take a look at the walkthrough for the Hell's Mouth side quest, brought to you by "Seeking the Past," which hopes to help everyone.

While fast traveling, an unexpected event can occur, preventing direct passage and leading to a haphazardly accepted quest. The village priest has been arguing with villagers due to livestock being killed by mysterious creatures. Villagers believe it to be the work of a demon from the entrance of hell, while the priest does not. Thus, he asks Henry to investigate and deliver a “Offering for Hell.”

Upon reaching the mine entrance to drop off the offering, Henry encounters a mysterious knight, leading to him slipping and falling into the mine, eventually knocked unconscious and dragged away by the knight. From there, things take a classic turn as he finds himself stripped.

However, the mysterious knight does not kill Henry (or perhaps thinks he is already dead). What follows is the entertaining segment of exploring the mines without a torch, making it quite torturous in the dark.

Fortunately, there are not too many branching paths to get lost in, and it’s relatively easy to reach the next segment (considering the horse is a little considerate).

  • Along the way, you will notice a small chest, which cannot be opened yet, but don’t forget to come back; this is a key item affecting the branching ending.

Upon seeing the mysterious knight holding a torch, sneak along and after climbing a couple of ladders, you’ll hear the knight walking back and forth. It is recommended to crouch and wait until the knight walks to a fork in the path, allowing you to sneak up and knock him out.

Don't confront him directly, as being discovered will lead to a fight regardless of your intentions. If you wish to challenge him while bare-chested against fully armored opponents… then go right ahead.

After knocking out the knight and taking the torch, head back to open the chest and retrieve the contract, while also collecting any valuable equipment from the knight. Continue progressing along the way.

By checking the contract, you’ll learn that the previous priest of the village had signed an agreement with the lord to oversee the mine after a mining disaster, revealing that it is not the work of a demon from hell.

Next, continue your search for an exit (remember to look upwards).

After leaving the mine, the priest, along with the villagers, arrives to offer explanations, and soon after, the lord appears. Upon confrontation (do not choose to attack directly or let them resolve it themselves), the truth finally emerges. It turns out that the lord had been residing in the mine after signing a contract with the previous priest to guard the entrance to hell (perhaps due to the many deaths from the mining disaster, which led to superstitions). In exchange, the previous priest was supposed to send someone to deliver necessities to the lord, but he did not inform the villagers or the new priest, which resulted in the lord going without food and water. Eventually, he retaliated by killing livestock (I suspect the lord's madness was not solely due to loneliness but rather from sheer hunger).

Ultimately, choosing to stop the villagers and present the contract as proof, the new priest apologizes to the villagers, successfully resolving this side quest. It’s worth mentioning that if the lord dies, the priest will only reward you with 200 coins. However, if the lord survives and the situation is resolved perfectly, you can receive over 400 coins. Nevertheless, the money isn't particularly important since Saint Henry isn’t really in need of cash; it’s all about personal choice.
