Note: The hotkeys used in this article are based on the default QWERTY layout for the PC version, and further explanations will not be provided.

Understanding the Alchemy Table

The left side of the alchemy table is the base area, where Henry needs to choose one base to add to the pot according to the recipe at the start of the alchemy process. There are four types of bases, from left to right: water, wine, oil, and spirits.

Alchemy Workstation Overview

The center is the operational zone, primarily engaging in the alchemical processes of Henry. This area comprises various essential tools such as the potion bottles and distillation flasks on the left, a large pot for heating located at the distance in the middle (quick keys to raise/lower the pot: X), and nearby, plates for temporary storage and mortars for grinding. Additionally, there’s an hourglass on the right shelf (quick key to flip: F).

Materials Section

The right side serves as the materials area, designed for storing ingredients that may be utilized during the alchemy process. The upper section on the right features a herb rack, accommodating three types of herbs. You can press 'I' to open the inventory and manually manage the herbs on the rack. When selecting more than three types of herbs, the newly selected one will replace the earliest chosen variety. When there are sufficient quantities in the inventory, the herbs in the bag can be retrieved multiple times; however, fresh and dried herbs will not replace each other. Below this is a shelf used for placing items such as poisonous mushrooms, boar tusks, and ores, with only one item being taken from the inventory at a time.

Alchemy Ingredients and Preparation Tips

The recipe table on the right allows you to quickly gather ingredients by long-pressing E when flipping to the designated recipe. During quick preparation, it will prioritize fresh herbs from your backpack. However, be cautious: when fresh herbs are insufficient (for instance, needing 2 but only having 1 fresh herb with the rest being dried), the automatic gathering will place the only fresh herb on the herb rack, resulting in only being able to retrieve one when needed. Therefore, I more strongly recommend manual gathering.

Standardized Alchemy Process

For the purpose of standardized operation, facilitating communication and improving reproducibility, this article will represent the alchemy process using the following method:

Base - Operation A - Operation B - ... - Final Touch

AB 基本的鍊金操作
AC 進行草藥配製

Alchemy Operations in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Each operation might represent a single or multiple actions performed by Henry in the game, such as grabbing herbs and placing them in a container or grinding and pouring into a vessel. At the start and end of these actions, Henry is always in a state of holding no items, which allows him to perform other actions. This state is represented by a short dash (-). During gameplay, players should ensure that all operations are performed smoothly without waiting or delays to minimize uncertainty for easier reproduction. This can be achieved by looking ahead to the item needed for the next operation during the current operation and repeatedly pre-inputting the required keys. Unless stated otherwise, most operations involve looking at the intended item and pressing E.

There are three ways to finish alchemical products in this game: first, the normal method of filling a potion bottle, where you press E to pick up the bottle and then hold E near the pot; second, distillation, where you press E to pick up the bottle and hold E near the distillation bottle, commonly used for potions based on spirits; third, grinding in a mortar, where you hold E near the mortar, used strictly for two types of gunpowder.

蒸餾 按E拿起藥瓶對蒸餾瓶長按E
入研鉢研磨 對研鉢長按E,只用於兩種火藥

Conclusion

The alchemy system in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is intricate and requires careful execution of operations. Following the steps outlined can greatly improve your alchemical successes in the game.

Understanding the Mechanics of Potion Brewing in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

The following mechanisms are based on actual testing within the game, and may not be completely accurate. If you have unpacked data or different test results, feel free to discuss in the comments section.

Potion Types Determined by Base and Herb Types

Example 1: Process "Wine - Grab 1 Chamomile into the pot - Grab 1 Sage into the pot - Bottle it" yields a Weak Chamomile Potion (level 6, no perks).

Quality of Potions Ranges from Weak to Henry Levels

There are four quality levels: Weak, Normal, Strong, and Henry. The Henry level can be unlocked through the "Secret of Secrets" trait.

The Quality of Brewed Potions is Inversely Related to the Number of Errors in the Process

Errors that affect the brewing process include:

  • Over or undercooking a certain ingredient
  • Using herbs that are not fresh enough (dried or with low freshness)
  • Lacking or incorrectly performing key steps (such as grinding, blowing, distillation, etc.)
  • Incorrect quantity of materials (adding too much or too little specific ingredients; generally, if a certain ingredient is completely omitted, it will result in failure)
錯誤類型 影響
煮制時間錯誤 影響藥劑品質
新鮮度不足 減低效果
關鍵步驟錯誤 導致失敗
材料數量錯誤 可能導致失敗

Keep Your Potions High-Quality: Tips for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

As long as you can avoid these mistakes, you can follow a more simplified process to successfully craft high-quality potions. Among these, the error rate of mistake 1 is influenced by your alchemy level, while other mistakes do not show similar traits. This is the fundamental reason why the optimal processes in the next two sections will be limited by alchemy level.

To avoid mistake 2, at least one fresh herb must be added to the recipe with three herbs, and at least two fresh herbs should be included in recipes with four or five herbs (they can be the same or different types). The determination of freshness has not been empirically tested, but it is speculated that the threshold is set at 50; however, further experimentation is needed. Most herbs decay over the game's 72-hour cycle, and as long as the durability does not drop to zero, players can dry them on the drying rack to create fully durable dried herbs.

Understanding Errors in Potion Crafting

Error 1 and Error 2 are influenced by the Balance Mysteries and Dark Magic. At levels 1 and 2 of the Balance Mysteries, players can ignore 1/2 errors, while the effect of Dark Magic allows them to ignore one error for a specific duration. Therefore, if players want to disregard the freshness of herbs, they can opt to brew potions at night or use Balance level 1 combined with Material level 2. However, the tolerance provided by Balance level 2 is generally impractical.

Errors 3 and 4 cannot be overlooked when it comes to the quality of the final product. Thus, players cannot rapidly brew high-level potions by merely reducing steps or materials; they can only optimize the process.

When there are no errors in the process, most potions yield a final output of 3+1*+2** bottles of potent potions. For every unignored error during the brewing process, the quality decreases by one level, and the output reduces by one bottle. If too many errors occur, the brewing process will result in a complete failure.

About "Secrets of the Craft"

The talent allows Henry to produce potions of higher quality, elevated by one level. The basic potions can only be obtained after unlocking this talent. Additionally, once this talent is acquired, it seems one cannot brew inferior potions even with more mistakes. However, since this article is focused on producing high-quality potions, the author has not invested too much effort in exploring the specific failure mechanisms.

Enhancements for Secrets of the Craft

Enhancements for Secrets of the Craft II

Beginner's Upgrade Recipe Guide

Based on the above, the author recommends that Henry gather herbs in large quantities while at a lower alchemy level. Use the provided level 6 recipes to craft the recommended potions until reaching level 16 to unlock "Secrets of the Craft." After that, brew various high-level potions as needed. Maintaining a stock of these high-level potions can significantly enhance the gaming experience. Notably, Henry's Fox Potion increases experience gain by 50% for two days, which is highly recommended.

Chamomile Infusion (Leveling Recommendation)

For beginners, this infusion not only serves as a crucial potion for leveling but also offers benefits that can aid in the gameplay.

Level 6 Brewing Recipes

To brew the Sunshine Potion, follow these steps: Start with alcohol, lower the heat, add 2 Chamomile flowers into the pot, add 1 Sage into the mortar, grind the sage, then return it to the pot before bottling.

Marigold Potion (Recommended for Leveling Up)

To create this potion, begin with water, add 1 Nettle into the pot, lower the heat, then add 2 Marigold flowers into the mortar. Grind them, return it to the pot, and bottle the potion once done. For level 6, use water, add 1 Nettle into the pot, lower the heat, add 2 Marigold flowers into the mortar, grind, place the mortar back into the pot, and bottle it.

Lion's Stance (Recommended for Profit)

For this potion, start with strong alcohol, lower the heat, add 2 Sage into the pot, add 2 Mint leaves into the mortar, grind them, then return them to the pot before bottling. For level 6, use strong alcohol, add 2 Sage into the pot, lower the heat, add 2 Mint leaves into the mortar, grind, put the mortar back, and bottle it.

Deliverance Cider

To brew this cider, start with alcohol, add 1 Nettle into the pot, lower the heat, then add 2 Belladonna into the mortar, grind, and bottle it.

Level 6: Brewing Wine

To brew wine, you'll need to follow these steps:
1. Add 1 Nettle to the pot.
2. Use the X button to lower the pot.
3. Grab 2 Nightshades and put them into the mortar.
4. Grind it and add to the pot.
5. Turn the hourglass 2 times.
6. Click X to raise the pot.
7. Bottle the potion.

When your alchemy level reaches a certain threshold, you can afford to turn the hourglass only once. At higher levels, you can use the above recipe, but the specific thresholds are yet untested. If you're lacking Nightshade, you only need to add 1 Nightshade, which will decrease both the quality and quantity of the final product by 1. However, you will be able to brew a greater total amount of saving potions.

Perfect Alchemy Process Compilation

In this game, potions unlock their recipes automatically after crafting once, so the following content may contain recipes that players have not yet unlocked. Please decide for yourself whether to check them.

The following processes are tested at alchemy levels 24-30 and may not be applicable at lower levels. The character perks during testing were 1st and 2nd level of "Art of Alchemy," "Dark Magic Apprentice," and "Secrets of the Depths." The testing was conducted during the daytime using fresh herbs, and the "Dark Magic Apprentice" perk was not activated. Unless specified otherwise in parentheses, the quality is at Henry's level, with quantities derived as follows: 3 + 1* + 2** = 6 bottles.

Please read the "Standard Operation Suggestions for Alchemy Processes" section to understand specific operating methods.
