First, head to the blacksmith in the village of Talmberg and talk to the NPC "Big Mouth" in the tavern to trigger the legendary story and receive quest hints. You will be given the range as shown in the image below:
Following the quest hint, if you start from the dock and go uphill, Henry will notice a rock and mention finding the giant rock mentioned in the story.
Then, as you walk north into the open area, you will find a grave where you can obtain the broken axe.
Using the blacksmith's repair kit will allow you to fix the axe.
This axe has better attributes than the sword you can acquire early on, so you won't have to struggle with whether to use a stick to open cans or stab with a longsword.
