Introduction to Basic Systems

In Monster Hunter Wilds, quickly getting familiar with the various basic systems is essential. Below is an overview of the basic systems in Monster Hunter Wilds, which aims to help each player understand the game better.

Main Storyline

Unlike previous titles, this game features a clear main storyline that progresses primarily through main and side quests (referred to in-game as primary and secondary missions). The main storyline of Monster Hunter Wilds generally lasts around 15 to 20 hours, and it is only in the mid to late stages of the main story that some important functionalities and increased difficulty will start to unlock. The main story can be viewed as a beginner's guide for players, making it very easy for newcomers to get started. Completing the main storyline essentially equips players with all the necessary knowledge about the game.

Side Quests

Side quests are missions obtained by conversing with different NPCs, known within the game as secondary missions.

Variety of Side Missions

The side missions in Monster Hunter Wilds are diverse. Some require players to hunt certain monsters, while others involve searching for specific environmental creatures in designated areas. Completing these side missions allows players to unlock repeatable free missions and earn substantial experience points.

Classification and Grading of Quests

Classification

The quest types in Monster Hunter Wilds are varied, each serving different purposes and having distinct unlocking methods. All quests can be accessed through the NPC Alma. Below, I will explain the differences between these quests:

  • Key Quests: Quests that have been completed in the main storyline are called key quests, which cannot be repeated.
  • Free Quests: Accepting side missions will also result in the corresponding free missions being unlocked. By conversing with Alma in the free missions interface, players can fulfill the requirements of the side mission at hand. These missions can be repeated.
  • Field Research Missions: When players wander around the map and encounter a monster they wish to hunt, it can be considered a field research mission.
  • Investigation Missions: (Details should follow the same structure)
  • Event Missions: Various event missions released by the official team, such as certain collaboration events, can only be accepted during specific time periods.

Missions and Difficulty Levels

There are clear grading levels between different missions. Before officially entering a mission, players can check the mission level in the top right corner of the mission tab on the left side of the screen and on the right side of the screen. The higher the star rating, the greater the difficulty, and the better the rewards given.

Different Environments and Regions

There are multiple distinct environmental regions such as the Abyssal Sands, Crimson Forest, Oil Springs, Ice Mist Cliffs, and Dragon City Ruins. Each region has its own unique environment, including sandy desert areas, snowy highlands, and dense rainforests.

The types of monsters found in different regions vary significantly, and the categories of environmental creatures differ greatly as well. Regions will gradually unlock as players progress through the main storyline missions.

Time and Weather

The progression of time within the game mainly affects the appearance probability of certain monsters and environmental creatures. Some monsters have a significantly higher chance of appearing at night in specific regions.

To view the monsters that appear in a region based on different times and weather conditions, open the map, select the global area, then choose a specific area. Move the mouse to the environmental report on the right side of the screen and turn to the third page to see the various creatures that can appear during different times and weather conditions.

Base Camp Functions

The base camp serves as a supply hub for players, appearing in each new area they reach. Players can quickly teleport between different base camps across various regions. In addition to teleporting, the base camp hosts numerous functional NPCs, such as those for forging weapons, various shops, quest reception points, support counters, and personal player tents.

Forging Weapons

Interact with Jemma at the base camp to access the weapon forging page. Jemma can forge, upgrade, or switch weapons and equipment for both the player and their companions. She also produces charm stones and manages hunting insects. Additionally, to change decorations like gems, players must talk to Jemma and select the option to change equipment.

Shops

The Supply Depot is incredibly useful, offering all the essential items needed for hunting. Players should always visit this shop to replenish previously consumed items such as potions before embarking on their hunts.

Food Supply Station

This facility exists only in the first desert map base camp. By interacting with the NPC at the food supply station, players can obtain food-related items. After each collection, there is a cooldown period before players can collect again. If players miss the NPC, they will remain available for future interactions.
