Types of Monsters

In Monster Hunter Wilds, monsters are categorized into:

  • Large Monsters: These are the primary targets for players to hunt; almost all quests revolve around large monsters.
  • Small Monsters: These smaller creatures are scattered throughout various regions.

Field Investigation Quests

To fully understand the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, players engage in field investigations. These quests are crucial for uncovering more about the different monsters and the ecosystem they inhabit.

Encountering Large Monsters

To trigger an on-site investigation quest for large monsters, you can either encounter them in the wild or click on the monster icons appearing on the right side of the map. After completing this quest, you will receive materials dropped by the monster as well as task rewards from the system.

Subsequently, you can check your investigation quest records at Alma's location. In this interface, you can spend a certain number of guild points to save an investigation quest as a research task. You can then find the saved tasks in the investigation quest interface, making it easier to repetitively challenge that monster for material farming. Simply follow this process when encountering the corresponding monster. Please note that you can only engage in an investigation task three times; after three attempts, the task will conclude and cannot be re-entered.

Simultaneous Monster Hunting

Once players progress to the later stages of the main storyline, the ability to hunt multiple monsters simultaneously will be unlocked. However, the monsters that can be hunted at the same time are limited; only certain specific monsters can be hunted together.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Hunting Multiple Monsters

In the game, after meeting the conditions for hunting two monsters simultaneously that appear on the map, players can see an icon for hunting multiple monsters on the right side of the map. Click on the icon to start the hunt.

Extreme Weather Areas

Some areas in the Oil Spring Valley and the Frost Fog Cliff have very extreme climates. When players arrive in these areas, they will experience significant debuffs. Using items like Cold Drinks and Hot Drinks allows players to traverse these extreme climate zones freely. Cold Drinks and Hot Drinks can be purchased from the camping store or obtained by collecting materials.

Searching for Items and Environmental Creatures

Items and environmental creatures are key elements in the exploration of this game, with many side missions requiring players to find specific environmental creatures. Open the map, click the icon at the bottom left to select Icon Filter, and you can see all the environmental creatures and materials that appear in this region.

Settlements in Different Areas

Each region in Monster Hunter Wilds has its own unique settlements where players can gather resources and interact with NPCs for quests and supplies.

Exploring Unique Settlements in Monster Hunter Wilds

As the main storyline progresses, different settlements will gradually take the stage, each featuring unique NPCs that are not found within the main base. Players can engage with these NPCs for various functions such as bartering.

The Concept of Family Meals

Family meals refer to dining experiences that grant temporary buffs (such as enhancing attack and defense) in the game. While the effects of these buffs from dining in the cat cart disappear after a while, Monster Hunter Wilds allows players to cook for themselves or enjoy meals with key NPCs in settlements, known as family meals!

To have a meal with an NPC, teleport to a particular settlement and open the map. When you see the icon displayed below, it means that this NPC wishes to invite you for a meal. Eating with the NPC provides maximum benefits, whereas cooking for yourself yields a smaller boost. Thus, enjoying family meals is truly the best approach.
