How to Capture Monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds
In Monster Hunter Wilds, you can capture monsters instead of killing them to earn more material rewards. Many players might not be familiar with the methods of capturing monsters, so here we bring you a guide on how to capture monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. We hope this will help you out.
Steps to Capture Monsters
- Weaken the monster's health until it is nearly defeated (you can capture it when a skull icon appears next to the monster's icon on the mini-map).
- Set up a trap (use a pitfall trap or a shock trap).
- Use tranquilizers (apply tranquilizer bombs/tranquilizer knives/tranquilizer darts to the monster while the trap is active).
Traps and tranquilizers can be crafted through combining items, so it’s recommended to place them in your shortcut slots for quick access when attempting to capture monsters. Below is a table with the crafting recipes for tranquilizer items:
道具 | 配方 |
---|---|
麻醉球 | 麻醉藥 + 精華 |
麻醉飛刀 | 麻醉藥 + 飛刀 |
麻醉彈 | 麻醉藥 + 子彈 |
Trap tools can be purchased from merchants at the supplies depot in the base camp, while other materials can be automatically found and picked up via map markers. It’s advisable to prepare at least 1 trap and 2 tranquilizer bombs.
Important Considerations for Capturing Monsters
Some monsters are immune to specific traps. For instance, the Frozen Winged Dragon and the White Hot Dragon are immune to pitfall traps. Additionally, the Blazing Thunder Dragon, White Hot Dragon, and Poison Bird are resistant to paralysis traps. It's crucial to weaken the monster's health until it shows signs of limping (indicated by a skull marker on the mini-map) before stopping your attacks and setting up traps (Paralysis Traps are recommended). After the monster triggers the trap, immediately throw 2 Sleep Bombs to complete the capture. Note that the duration of trap effectiveness is relatively short, and if the monster's health is too high or it escapes the trap, the attempt will fail. Place Sleep Bombs in your shortcut bar, and press the 【□/X button】 for quick throwing.
If your primary weapon is a ranged one, you can also consider using Sleep Shots (though you won't be able to carve materials from the monster, rewards can still be obtained from the end screen). Some quests require the capture of specific monsters to complete. Capturing 50 monsters unlocks the achievement/trophy "Expert Capturer" (Proof of capturing 50 monsters).
