Understanding Hunter Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, HR refers to the Hunter Rank, which is equivalent to the character level. It reflects your current progress and completion in the game. So, how can you improve your Hunter Rank? Below are methods to enhance your Hunter Rank in Monster Hunter Wilds, which we hope will be helpful to you.

Benefits of Hunter Rank

The Hunter Rank (HR) is essential for unlocking high-difficulty quests. Starting from Chapter 4-3, you need to increase your HR to unlock new main storyline quests (key missions). To complete the main storyline, you must reach at least HR 40. As your HR increases, more side quests (secondary missions) will also become available.

You can check your Hunter Rank in the status menu, equipment information, or hunter profile. Additionally, you can simply hold down the L1/LB button to display it directly.

When the main storyline progresses to specific points, the HR may be temporarily locked. During this period, any excess experience points will automatically accumulate once the lock is lifted. After completing Chapter 6 of the main storyline, the level restrictions will be completely removed.

After reaching HR 40, you can challenge all the tempered monsters (which takes around 20-35 hours, depending on your gear, proficiency, and whether you use SOS flares).

Hunter Level Does Not Affect Character Abilities

Levelling up your hunter will not increase your character's health (HP), stamina, attributes, or enhance the character's combat abilities. Essentially, the HR only indirectly improves equipment strength by unlocking higher difficulty quests and has no direct impact on character growth.

How to Quickly Level Up Your Hunter

① Defeating/Capturing Large Monsters
Higher difficulty monsters (star rating/Ancient Ones) will provide more HR points. For instance, moving from HR39 to HR40 may require defeating 2-3 high-difficulty monsters. Using distress signals to summon AI teammates or teaming up with other hunters can also accelerate hunting times.

② Completing Side Quests

Interact with NPCs for Side Quests

Talk to the NPC with a yellow exclamation mark above their head, then interact with Alma at the quest counter to receive side quests marked with a yellow indicator (usually hunting designated monsters). By hunting these designated monsters and submitting the quests, you can earn HR points twice (once for hunting the monster and once for submitting the quest). Utilizing the SOS Flare, you can complete a hunting-related side quest in about 5-12 minutes.

Core Method for Leveling Up

In summary, hunting monsters is the core method for boosting your Hunter rank, and you can continue to do so even after completing the main storyline. When your Hunter rank reaches HR100, you will unlock the achievement/trophy “Senior Hunter” (a testament to attaining level 100).
