Choosing the Right Gear for the Piercing Light Bow in Monster Hunter Wilds

Many light bowgun players in Monster Hunter Wilds opt for a piercing playstyle. So how should one choose the weapon builds in this game? Below is a guide brought to you by "qscpqscp" on the recommended builds for piercing light bowguns. We hope this will assist you in your journey.

Monster Hunter Wilds Gear Reference

The Monster Hunter Wilds gear reference contains comprehensive information on equipment, materials, and monsters, along with an automatic gear setup feature to help you navigate new quests! After finishing all the main quests over a weekend, I transitioned from struggling with heavy bowguns to enjoying a relaxing experience with the light bowgun's piercing shots. In the end, I felt the nostalgia of returning to a simpler time.

Current Build

This current build operates quite comfortably, being one of the few weapons without issues related to J defense or J recovery. Dodging consistently with just distance 3 is not problematic at all.

Initially, I started with a full set of ruthless claw armor and cleared every main quest. Following that, I tested in the training area and found that adding the Lethal 5 bonus increased my damage by 20. Ultimately, I switched to Challenge 5 for improved performance.

Build Explanation

Skills like Rapid Fire Enhancement are intentionally made difficult to fully acquire, as you can only see jewels with these skills. However, most physical weapons offer 321 slots, and using a 333 crossbow for piercing shots can feel like a massive pitfall. I have yet to experience attribute rapid fire; I will research it further once I gather some materials during village runs.

Build Example

Gear Setup

1. Ballistics Level 3: This game makes the critical range for piercing shots extremely challenging, and equipping this skill can effectively enhance gameplay comfort. Otherwise, during attacks like Kirin’s pregnant discharge, you will basically find yourself out of range while dodging.

2. Initial Shot: It feels like the reload speed is slightly faster. Coupled with the fourth strong shot, the sound and effects during activation are really satisfying.

3. Under perfect conditions: 110 critical hits (Weapon 15 + Challenge 15 + Focus 30 + Weakness Exploit 30 + Wounded 20), and there are still 5 level one slots available for further adjustments.

Weapon Selection in Monster Hunter Wilds

When it comes to weapon selection, both the Glint-Nap Dragon and the Fire Wyvern are viable options, with choices of 10 attack and 15 affinity. The Glint-Nap Dragon looks better aesthetically and comes with Paralyze 2, but the Fire Wyvern R8 has simpler upgrade requirements. As for weapon components, just opt for the Piercing type. Although the Lock Blade Bow can also use Piercing 3, it only has an attack of 200, so it's better to pass on that.

Recommended Weapons

In addition, I recommend the Fierce Claw Dragon Light Bowgun. Although it only has Piercing 2, it has a large ammo capacity of 7 shots, perfectly matching its built-in Strong 4 Shooting skill (the damage of the 4th and 6th shots is increased, and the critical hit chance increases for shots 4-7). It feels much smoother compared to 4 shots per reload. (The single-shot damage action value of Piercing 2 and Piercing 3 ammo is the same; the difference is that Piercing 2 has 7 hits while Piercing 3 has 9 hits.)
