Introduction
Players of Monster Hunter Wilds can freely customize their gear based on their needs and playstyle. So, how should one build their Insect Glaive in version 1.0? Below, we present an analysis of Insect Glaive builds by “TheBlindSea,” including tests of some unconventional armor sets that we hope will help everyone.
Equipment and Skills Overview
The current version seems flashy, but after testing, few skills are truly effective, and the skills available are limited. We are looking forward to subsequent updates.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, weapon and armor skills are configured separately, allowing for a complete and distinct examination of each aspect.
Weapon Choices
For all elemental ailments, mechanical weapons are the preferred choice, proving to be slightly better than material weapons overall. Although the advantage is marginal, every bit counts.

Conclusion
In summary, the best approach for players using the Insect Glaive in Monster Hunter Wilds is to remain flexible with their gear choices and stay updated with new developments in the game. Happy hunting!
Choosing the Right Skills for Your Build
Select 1-2 levels of sharpness, while maximizing attack power with the rest of your skill slots, including damage-related skills. My choice is to go with 2 levels of sharpness for the final stats: 220 attack, 28 elemental damage, 5 critical hit rate, and 60 white sharpness. Currently, 60 white sharpness is sufficient to support capturing 5-star dangerous monsters like the historical Glavenus. Blade locks will lose blue sharpness in the final stages, so there's no need to consider maintaining sharpness skills.
Gem Selection and Benefits
The slots will be filled with individual gems: one Critical Eye III, a Flying Dragon gem, and a generic gem for the last slot, typically a Concentration gem. Concentration III provides benefits similar to the Iceborne Sword and Shield's Sheathing Skill III, which significantly enhances comfort during gameplay, although it's not strictly necessary. Given the current slot scarcity, it's also possible to forgo this skill.
Keep in mind that the Insect Glaive has two charging phases, and the number of charge phases will affect subsequent insect damage output! If you choose not to use the Concentration gem, you can slot in more attack power or Critical Hit skills, allowing the Flying Dragon gem to reach 4 levels, which translates to either 12 additional attack power or 16 critical hit rate.
For 4-level Attack: 220*0.02+8=12.4, and for 4-level Critical Hit: 220*0.16 (additional critical hit) *0.34 (Critical Eye) = 11.968. The benefits are roughly comparable!
代碼 | 參數 |

斬味 | 2條斬味 |
攻擊 | 220攻擊 |
會心 | 5會心 |

Understanding Critical Hits in Monster Hunter Wilds
With a level 2 Critical Boost +1, the calculation goes like this: 220 * 0.06 (extra critical hit) * 0.64 (critical rate) = 8.448. The difference is minimal, but a higher critical rate significantly increases the benefits of Critical Boost. Overall, if not using Concentration, it is recommended to equip Critical Boost 3, Attack Boost, and Attack 3.
Recommended Monster Targets Based on Elemental Attributes
The physical weapon options for various ailments are essentially similar; choose whichever suits your playstyle. I personally prefer the Blast type.
The issue with mechanical weapons is obtaining the desired affix. The difference between mechanical and material weapons is minimal, and if the affix is mediocre, it might be inferior to material weapons.
For material weapons, select the following based on elemental strengths: choose Blazing Thunder for Thunder, Black Silk or Fierce Claw for Dragon, Fire Dragon for Fire, Ice for Snow Lion, and both Poison and Sleep options are viable as well. The Water element has only the Sand Sea Dragon, which carries skills that aren't particularly effective, leading to a slight disadvantage.
Armor Considerations
Critical Skills
It is well-known that due to the Weakness Exploit mechanic, achieving maximum critical hits is challenging this generation. However, critical hit damage remains a top priority, as critical damage has a 1.25x multiplier, and a weapon with a Critical Boost 3 delivers a 1.34x multiplier.
Understanding Critical Hits in Monster Hunter Wilds
Even if you are weak, stacking up on critical hits is still essential, as it remains the easiest way to achieve critical damage. A level 5 Weakness Exploit provides a stable 30% crit chance.
Overcoming Frenzy Virus in Monster Hunter Wilds
In this version, overcoming the Frenzy Virus is quite manageable. The Blackseeker two-piece set directly grants a 15% critical chance after overcoming the Frenzy Virus, and an additional 10% critical chance from Antifrenzy level 3. Thus, obtaining the Blackseeker two-piece set is crucial. However, the Blackseeker set itself lacks output skills, so it's essential to consider the other three components first to maximize gains before supplementing with the Blackseeker set.
Maximizing Stamina and Critical Damage
The skill that provides the highest critical damage is 'Mental Fortitude' at level 3, which grants a 10% increase per level and becomes effective after 5 seconds of full stamina. After reaching full stamina, there is an energy consumption threshold; if the stamina consumed exceeds this value, the skill will become ineffective. This threshold is greater than the stamina consumed in one roll.
It's worth noting that the Lightning Jaw two-piece set can increase stamina limits, and the excess stamina consumption will not cause the Mental Fortitude skill to fail.
Understanding the Insect Glaive
The coverage rate of the Insect Glaive's Spirit Boost is generally quite low in most situations. Mastering this skill requires a high level of proficiency and may not be suitable for the average player under normal conditions. Therefore, we will not consider this skill in detail. At most, I’ll leave a level 2 slot empty, uncertain of what to equip, just as a placeholder. However, I will eventually provide a set that includes Spirit Boost in my final recommendations.
Power Release and Critical Challenge
The coverage rate for Power Release remains low in this game's world mode. If you want to rely on the Challenger skill to achieve critical hits, you will need to reach level 5. This comes at a considerable cost, yielding only 15% critical hit chance. Thus, it is typically more effective as a supplementary offensive skill.
Output Skills
Currently, the Insect Glaive adds up to a total of 60% critical hit chance with 5 + 30 + 25. The next step is to maximize the output skills.
1. The Dark Horse of This Generation: Counterattack
This generation's biggest surprise is definitely Counterattack. It offers a level 3 attack boost of 25 for 45 seconds. Just one protective charm can maximize this, and using jewels to enhance it requires only level 2 slots, resulting in exceptional benefits. Additionally, this skill activates when the character receives damage from an attack that can knock them back, regardless of whether the character is in a stance or not, as long as they are injured and not blocked by a shield.
By following these guidelines, players can effectively utilize the Insect Glaive to enhance their performance in Monster Hunter Wilds. Experimenting with different setups and staying aware of the game's mechanics can lead to a more rewarding hunting experience.
1. Shortest Counter Body
For the Insect Glaive, utilizing the shortest counter body is quite challenging. It mainly relies on occasionally getting hit to trigger it. If all else fails, using an explosive barrel to blow yourself up can also work.
2. Combo
With level 1 providing 8 attack and 6 element, you can trigger combo effects easily. The high-frequency nature of the Insect Glaive makes it cover a vast area. Additionally, wearing 2/4 pieces of the Fierce Claw set can extend the duration of the combo and provide an additional +3/10 attack. This means that equipping 2 pieces of the Fierce Claw set increases your coverage rate, and focusing on maximizing the combo is a solid strategy.
3. Critical Boost
Level 1 provides +10 attack, while the remaining upgrades grant +5 each, allowing for the same combo trigger strategy. In this version, the generous cat food that boosts recovery grants +4 recovery and the Black Corrosion set enhances recovery even more, making dodging much more manageable.
4. Challenger
The coverage is relatively decent, as currently, battles end quite quickly, with an estimated coverage rate of around 70%. Each level boosts attack by +4, making it feasible to use the additional 3-tier slots.
5. Blade Lock Attack
This is a small explosion effect; the actual performance results in some attacks having a chance to trigger, increasing cumulative wound values while generating a status effect similar to explosions, resulting in fixed damage bursts.
Damage Mechanics in Monster Hunter Wilds
At level 1, the damage yield is 1.05 times the wound accumulation with a fixed explosive damage of 140. The formula for damage is n-level = 1 + 0.05n multiplier / 130 + 5n(n+1) damage. It seems that as levels increase, the damage yield becomes better; however, all the charge skills, insect boosts, and bugs from the insect glaive do not benefit from this effect. This is not a bug but rather a coded aspect of the game. Therefore, if there is an opportunity, triggering it at least once is sufficient, and its priority is lower than that of the combo critical hit.
Skill Enhancements
6. Fortune Transformation
Each level increases attribute by 5%. In this generation, this is no longer a skill to be taken lightly.
7. Injuryfree
Each level provides +4, as there are usually minor injuries. It is essential to combine it with health recovery skills. Currently, the only set that notably recovers health is the Protective Sword Set (2 pieces), but the effectiveness of skills outside of the hand is relatively low.
8. Wrath and Black Flame Set II
Wrath increases by +5 at level 1, but coverage is a significant concern. The Black Flame (2 pieces) set triggers under the conditions of Wrath, but it is roughly less than a one-third probability of activating. Hitting a wooden target results in roughly 20 damage, while hitting wounds results in about 25. When striking the female firehead with a material toughness of 70, one hit deals 17 damage. It is suspected that it shares the same judgment criteria with the Protective Blade Strike since the insect glaive's charge skills cannot trigger it either.
Equipment Analysis in Monster Hunter Wilds
This value is quite good, but the issue of resentment coverage is significant. Perhaps we can trigger this on the volcanic map without drinking cold drinks throughout, but that is not something to consider daily.
Notable Skills and Effects
9. Stealth Octopus
A 2/4 piece set grants +15/25 attack after consuming half-cooked or cooked meat, lasting for 120 seconds. This effect cannot coexist with the Monster Juice or Monster Pill buff. Therefore, if players usually consume Monster Juices, the benefit from the 2-piece set in this skill would only be +5 attack, equivalent to the duration of a Monster Pill. Currently, when monster health is low, it may be possible to consume the monster only once, possibly leading to a full coverage situation.
10. Fire Dragon Scorch
This has less than a one-third chance to trigger. With a 2-piece set, it implies a single trigger can deal 12 damage against a target absorbing 30 in the training ground. There are doubts that it uses the same determination as the Blade Lock Strike, as the Charge Bug's charging cannot trigger it either, so it is directly skipped.
11. Snow Lion King
The effect of a 2/4 set grants +3/6 attack for oneself and +10/20 attack for teammates, lasting 180 seconds. It cannot coexist with the Demon Dust buff, essentially making it a support set that achieves 4 pieces.
Thus, calculating everything, if you want to gather output, the 2-piece set only has 2 possible selections.
Weapon Skills Overview
With Breach Claw +3 attack and a slight increase in combo coverage/Assassin Octopus 2 plus grilled meat +5 attack. Prioritize skills such as Combo Master 1, Critical Hit 1, and Counterattack 3. Consider building up Combo or Critical Hit, or incorporating Blade Lock 1 as needed.
Comfort Skills
Focus on skills like Vitality, Endurance, Heavyweight, and Sprint with level 1 slots. Always assess your needs for additional slots, but remember to prioritize full Anti-Madness slots first. The Earplugs Insect Glaive 3 comes with a level 1 default, and adding one more level will counter small roars. Most monsters emit small roars; currently, only certain ones like Frozen Summit, Black Silk, Kairo, and White Incandescence have large roars, so inserting a level 1 into available level 2 slots is useful.
Armor Set 2/4 pieces grant damage recovery upon killing monsters, making it a solid choice for everyday challenges. If you get Armor Set 2, consider equipping several pieces without damage.
Blade Lock 2/4 pieces' recovery is minimal; equipping just two pieces is almost negligible.
Insect Selection
[]
Firstly, thanks to the expert for the compilation. For insects, I recommend the Round Shield Golden Bug, which helps with resource gathering and rapid charge, allowing you to quickly charge all three lamps at once.
Insect Glaive Attributes and Build Recommendations
Secondly, when dealing attribute damage, choose those with the "Insect Glaive Twin Blade Attribute" enhancement. Any item with this attribute will work. For optimal damage control, select the "Sturdy Beetle," and for pure Insect Glaive damage output, choose the "Raging Bull." If you're not proficient with lighting, opt for the fastest option.
Final Insect Glaive 1.0 Build
Comfortable Healing Earplugs & Blade Lock
Everyday comfort.
Output Enhancement with Fierce Claws
You can also switch to "Mental Boost" if you can maintain coverage rate.
Grilled Meat Hidden Gadget
Don't forget to eat grilled meat in time! Assuming the "Critical Strike" coverage rate is similar to "Combo," the attack damage is 2 more than the "Fierce Claws," but it has 8 less in attributes. In actual circumstances, the damage should be slightly lower than "Fierce Claws," but it allows for earplug activation.
Thunder Jaw & Mental Boost
Use Thunder Jaw to enhance mental coverage rate.
Other Considerations
The cat food I enjoy includes meat types, evasion capabilities, and cold-heat immunity.
Gear Output and Benefits
The outfit provides a brainless approach to achieving max critical hits, granting a 10% increase upon equipping, with an additional 20% when overcoming challenges, effectively maximizing critical hit potential. However, be mindful that the cooldown for cross-missions shares this benefit.
Weapon Attributes and Strategies
The insect glaive's absorption of damage from monster attributes accounts for about 20% efficacy in combat.
When it comes to strategies, Wave Outfit Black Silk is more suitable for charging on the ground and seeking opportunities to defeat enemies; it’s challenging to find openings to fully charge the insect. On the other hand, Black Flame Brilliant Thunder offers more points for insect charge, allowing for more aggressive play.
The Blade Lock provides a more balanced approach overall.
Materials to Farm
Currently, the items worth farming include:
- Mechanical Weapon Fragments, which are relatively easy to obtain.
- Jewels, single-skill jewels are readily available while some complex weapon jewels are harder to come by but have lesser demand.
- Materials for upgrading mechanical weapons; initially scarce, they can be acquired through decomposition at NPCs in the Oil Slope, and materials from ineffective mechanical weapon attributes can be decomposed to return upgrade materials, so after some time, they will no longer be a shortage.
