Fishing Techniques for the Great Sailfish

The Great Sailfish can be caught using a Double-Slot Lure (available after taking the side mission Target: Giant Creature!). It has been confirmed that you can also catch it using a Emerald Lure, but since the Emerald Lure has a broader applicability, there is a higher chance of catching other fish, making it harder to target the specific fish. It is suggested to slowly reel in (moving the joystick up and down; W/S keys) to entice the Great Sailfish, bringing the fish closer to the shore before letting it bite.

Once the Great Sailfish bites, quickly react to its movements following the standard fishing process. Move the fishing rod in the direction of the fish's movements, and when the fish tires out, use that opportunity to reel it in (moving the joystick up and down; W/S keys). Be cautious; slow reactions may result in losing the Great Sailfish.

Fishing Techniques in Monster Hunter Wilds

When fishing for the mighty marlin, be aware that it may swim towards rocks or other obstacles. Getting too close to these barriers can lead to snagging and cause the marlin to escape. Remember to move the rod in the opposite direction of the fish's movement to pull it away safely. Before starting to fish, it's also a good idea to clear any interactive obstacles on the water surface to prevent snagging.

Once the marlin bites, it will jump out of the water multiple times (a behavior known as "washing gills"). Move the rod in the direction of its jumps and then press R2/RT to reel in the fish. If you fail to do this correctly, there's a high chance the marlin will escape.
